Women in Photonics:

Women have made significant contributions to the field of photonics, demonstrating their expertise, creativity, and innovation. From the early pioneers who paved the way for the development of laser technology to the current generation of researchers, engineers, and scientists, women have played a crucial role in advancing this interdisciplinary field. Photonics, which encompasses the study and application of light, has seen women excel in various areas, including optical communications, laser spectroscopy, biomedical imaging, and quantum optics. Despite facing historical gender disparities in STEM fields, women in photonics have continued to break barriers and shatter stereotypes. Their diverse perspectives and unique approaches have led to groundbreaking discoveries and advancements in areas such as ultrafast lasers, photonic integrated circuits, and nanophotonics. As role models and mentors, women in photonics inspire future generations to pursue careers in science and engineering, fostering a more inclusive and diverse community. However, challenges persist, and efforts to promote gender equality in photonics and beyond remain crucial. Organizations and initiatives aimed at empowering women, providing mentorship, and advocating for equal opportunities have emerged, contributing to a more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. By celebrating the accomplishments of women in photonics and addressing the systemic barriers they face, we can create a brighter future that fully embraces the talents and potential of all individuals, regardless of gender.
Following are the events under for Women in Photonics Track for WRAP 2023:

  • 1 : Photonics Diversity and Inclusion Workshop
  • 2 : Photonics Career Development for Women Workshop
  • 3 : Women in Biophotonics Networking Event
  • 4 : Women's Photonics Mentorship Program Launch
  • 5 : Women in Optoelectronics Roundtable Discussion
  • 6 : Women in Light Science and Engineering Workshop
  • 7 : Inspiring Women in Photonics Speaker Series
  • 8 : Women's Innovations in Photonic Materials Exhibition

Young Professionals in Photonics:

The conference will also have a special session on ‘Young Professionals in Photonics’ which brings together all the young minds working in the field of photonics on a single platform for exchanging their thoughts and new research ideas for the betterment of the society. We have around 35 young professionals/researchers from various Institutions from India who will showcase their research ideas and will help to encourage the next generation young minds of India to achieve great heights in the areas of science and technology. For the Young professionals in photonics, WRAP plans to organize a Ph.D. Colloquium session. The young professionals will present the research statement, evolving methods, experimentation, and results as a poster presentation.
